MANTRA token (formerly OM): supply, utility, staking and risks

The MANTRA token is the native coin of MANTRA Chain: it pays transaction fees, is staked with validators to secure the network and carries governance votes. It replaced OM on 2 March 2026 through a 1:4 redenomination. On 4 October 2026 total supply was 8.22 billion of a 10.00 billion maximum, with 6.56 billion circulating. Its price is volatile and you can lose what you put in.

Not financial advice. Crypto is highly volatile and may drop in value significantly. You may lose the amounts you invest and your investments do not benefit from any form of financial protection.

What the MANTRA token is and what it does

MANTRA is the coin that MANTRA Chain itself runs on. It was called OM until 2 March 2026. It has three jobs on the network: it pays for transactions, it is staked to secure the chain and it carries votes on changes to the protocol. This page covers the coin only; the network is described on the page about what MANTRA Chain is used for.

In law, MANTRA is a protocol coin: it is not a share in any company, not a deposit and not a claim backed by reserve assets or redeemable from an issuer. The only way out of a holding is to sell or transfer it on a market where someone is willing to buy.

Fees

Every transaction on MANTRA Chain pays a fee in MANTRA. In the week of 28 September to 4 October 2026 the network processed 14,274 transactions and collected 193.70 MANTRA in fees, an average of 0.0136 MANTRA per transaction. The average hides a range, and the weekly report gives no fee by transaction type.

Staking and network security

Holders stake MANTRA with validators, the operators that produce blocks. The weekly report calls the bonded ratio the share of total supply that secures the network. On 4 October 2026 it was 28.77%, about 2.37 billion of 8.22 billion coins. The routes, the current rate and the 8-day exit are under Staking MANTRA, and the terms are defined in the glossary: staking, unbonding and validator.

Governance

Changes to the protocol are put to a vote of MANTRA holders. The weekly report counts 39 proposals to date. The most recent one to pass, Proposal 38, approved a mainnet upgrade labelled v8.7.0 on 25 September 2026, with a turnout of 43.70% against a quorum of 33.40%.

Supply and allocation

Supply figures come from MANTRA's weekly transparency report, which credits CoinGecko. Each is a snapshot of one day and carries its date.

Supply on 4 October 2026

On 4 October 2026 there were 8.22 billion MANTRA in existence against a maximum of 10.00 billion. Of that total, 6.56 billion (79.76%) was circulating and 20.24% was locked. Six weeks earlier, on 23 August 2026, total supply was 8.09 billion, so about 0.13 billion MANTRA was added between the two reports.

Allocations not yet circulating

The report lists six allocations that are not counted in circulating supply, each as a share of total supply. It describes the locked coins as subject to public vesting schedules and prints no unlock dates.

The six rows add up to 21.46%. That is close to the locked share reported for 23 August 2026 (21.44%) and above the 20.24% reported for 4 October, because report 21 prints the same allocation figures as report 15. The report does not explain the gap, so read the table as an indication and not as a current balance.

Inflation

Below the maximum, total supply is not fixed. New MANTRA is created by on-chain mint events and paid to stakers, and the weekly report describes the current setting as a 16.0% inflation regime. Issuance is how the total can rise from one report to the next, and about 1.78 billion MANTRA can still be issued before the 10.00 billion maximum is reached. The report does not say what the 16.0% is measured against, whether it changes over time or what happens to issuance at the maximum.

From OM to MANTRA: the March 2026 redenomination

OM and MANTRA are the same coin at two points in time. MANTRA announced the change on 9 January 2026 and carried it out in two steps.

  1. MANTRA publishes the timeline for the coin upgrade.
  2. ERC-20 OM is deprecated and the bridge closes.
  3. The ticker changes from OM to MANTRA and every balance is split 1:4.

What changed on 2 March 2026

The ticker changed from OM to MANTRA and each OM became 4 MANTRA. MANTRA describes the split as non-dilutive: every balance was multiplied by the same factor, so no holder's share of the supply changed. The notice said that holders of OM on MANTRA Chain did not need to do anything.

Figures published before that date are in OM. Multiply an older quantity by four before you compare it with a MANTRA figure: 1,000 OM became 4,000 MANTRA.

ERC-20 OM and the bridge closure

Before the change, OM also existed as an ERC-20 token outside MANTRA Chain. That version was deprecated on 15 January 2026 and the bridge closed on the same day, according to the notice and to MANTRA's list of key dates.

Not published

This page cannot confirm whether ERC-20 OM that was not bridged before 15 January 2026 can still be converted, by what route or until when. If you hold it, ask through the official channels and support page and act only on an answer that comes from an official domain.

What holders should check

  • Network. Find out whether your coins sit on MANTRA Chain, on an exchange or in the old ERC-20 form. If an exchange holds them, read that exchange's own notice about the change.
  • Ticker and balance. After the split a balance reads MANTRA, not OM, and four times the old number of coins.
  • Address bar. Only the domains listed below belong to MANTRA.

Phishing

No site outside the list below can "migrate", "upgrade" or "claim" your tokens. Holders on MANTRA Chain had nothing to do, so treat any message that asks you to connect a wallet or type a seed phrase to complete the change as an attempt at theft.

Staking MANTRA

Staking means bonding MANTRA to a validator so that it counts towards the security of the chain. In exchange, the protocol issues new MANTRA to stakers. The rate comes out of protocol settings and of how much is staked. Nothing about it is promised.

How staking works

MANTRA's own site summary names two routes. You can delegate MANTRA directly to validators at mantra.zone/stake. Or you can use Fluxtra, a liquid staking application that stakes for you and gives you stMANTRA, a token that stands for the staked position.

How direct staking of MANTRA works A holder delegates MANTRA to a validator. The validator signs blocks on MANTRA Chain and takes a commission. The chain issues new MANTRA as rewards, which flow back to the holder. To exit, the holder undelegates and waits 8 days before the coins can be moved again. HOLDER VALIDATOR MANTRA CHAIN delegates MANTRA takes a commission issues new MANTRA REWARDS: NEWLY ISSUED MANTRA variable and not guaranteed UNDELEGATE 8 DAYS UNBONDING MOVABLE AGAIN exit starts no transfer, no sale transfer or sell
Figure 1. Direct staking: delegated MANTRA backs a validator, the chain issues new MANTRA to stakers, and an exit takes 8 days.
  1. Choose a validator. A validator runs the software that produces blocks and keeps a commission out of what its delegators receive. The weekly report prints no commission figures.
  2. Delegate. Delegating bonds your MANTRA to that validator. The protocol locks the coins; they are not sent to the validator's own account.
  3. Receive new MANTRA. What stakers receive is newly issued MANTRA, shared out after each validator's commission. The rate is in the block below.
  4. Unbond to exit. Undelegating starts an unbonding period of 8 days. Until it ends, the coins cannot be moved or sold.

; 22.00% on the day

Variable and not guaranteed. MANTRA Chain Association does not set or guarantee this rate. Staked MANTRA takes 8 days to unbond.

Read the figure with care. What stakers receive is newly issued MANTRA, not income from a business, so the percentage is not a real gain: while your balance grows, total supply grows too, and each coin becomes a smaller part of it. Holders who do not stake are diluted. The rate is counted in MANTRA, so it says nothing about what the coin will be worth in any currency.

Unbonding, slashing and other risks

Unbonding
8 days, as reported on 4 October 2026. During that time the coins cannot be moved or sold, whatever the price does.
Slashing
A proof-of-stake network can destroy part of a stake when a validator breaks the rules or goes offline, and delegators share that loss. The conditions and percentages on MANTRA Chain are not in the weekly report.
Network halt
From 23:13 UTC on 20 August to 05:26 UTC on 22 August 2026 the chain produced no blocks. During a halt no transaction is processed, including a request to unbond.
Liquid staking
stMANTRA adds the risk of the Fluxtra contracts and of the token's own market price to the risks above. Fluxtra's terms are not described on this page.
Protection
None. As the warning at the top of this page says, holdings do not benefit from any form of financial protection.

Where the token trades and the official contract addresses

Under its Terms, MANTRA Chain Association offers no products or services, and this page has no buy button. The lists below repeat what the live site says. A listing is not an endorsement, and what you can use depends on your country and on each venue's own rules.

Exchanges

The live site names the same 23 centralised exchanges in two places: on its home page, as integrated with MANTRA Chain, and on its token page.

  • Binance
  • ByBit
  • KuCoin
  • Kraken
  • Bitget
  • Gate.io
  • UPbit
  • Bithumb
  • Crypto.com
  • Bitvavo
  • MEXC
  • Bitpanda
  • CoinDCX
  • BitMart
  • HTX
  • Pionex
  • CoinW
  • BingX
  • LBank
  • Mercado Bitcoin
  • Poloniex
  • Tokocrypto
  • BtcTurk

The token page adds three names that the home page does not have: OKX, AscendEX and CoinTR. It also names two decentralised exchanges, MANTRA Swap and QuickSwap. Before you use any venue, check on its own site that it lists MANTRA under the new ticker and that it serves your country.

Canonical contracts

On the EVM side of MANTRA Chain mainnet, canonical contracts are listed for eight tokens: wMANTRA, stMANTRA, mantraUSD, USDC, USDT, wBTC, wETH and HYPE. The stated source of truth is the documentation page Canonical ERC-20 Contracts on docs.mantrachain.io.

This page prints no contract address on purpose. Copy an address from the documentation page only, and compare it on the explorer at mantrascan.io before you send anything. A token with the right name and the wrong address is a different token.

MiCA white paper for the European Union

MANTRA publishes a crypto-asset white paper for the European Union under Article 6 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1114 on markets in crypto-assets (MiCA). It is at mantrachain.io/whitepaper/ as one Inline XBRL file of about 4.7 MB and about 14,000 words. Under MiCA a white paper of this kind is a disclosure document, and whoever publishes it is responsible for what it says. It is not a licence.

What the regulation asks such a paper to cover, and so what to look for in this one:

  • Issuer or offeror. The legal name, address and contact details of whoever offers the coin.
  • Rights. What holding the coin does and does not entitle you to.
  • Technology. The network, its consensus mechanism and how the coin is held and transferred.
  • Risks. The risks tied to the coin, to the offeror and to the technology.
  • Environmental indicators. The climate and other environmental effects of the consensus mechanism.

Statement under MiCA Article 6(3)

This crypto-asset white paper has not been approved by any competent authority in any Member State of the European Union. The offeror of the crypto-asset is solely responsible for the content of this crypto-asset white paper.

The offeror's legal name is not confirmed on this page, and no MANTRA entity claims authorisation as a crypto-asset service provider in the European Union. The notice sits with the other disclosures on the page for licences and the MiCA white paper notice.

Risks of holding and staking MANTRA

The first three risks below have already happened to this coin, and each has a date. The list is not complete: the full risk disclosure goes further.

Price volatility

On 13 April 2025, at about 18:28 UTC, OM fell 92% in roughly one hour. That is MANTRA's own figure, from its Statement of Events published on 16 April 2025. The same statement says the MANTRA team sold nothing during that period and puts the fall down to forced liquidations on centralised exchanges. That is MANTRA's account, not an independent finding.

On 21 April 2025 the chief executive committed to burn his team allocation of 150 million OM, which is 600 million MANTRA in today's units, and MANTRA said it was in talks about burning a further 150 million OM. This page has not confirmed whether those burns were completed. A fall of that size can happen again, and in far less time than the 8 days it takes to unbond.

Dilution from inflation

Supply grows, and two things add coins that can be sold: new issuance, up to the 10.00 billion maximum, and unlocks from the 20.24% of supply that was still locked on 4 October 2026. The dated figures are under Supply and allocation.

Protocol and security incidents

MANTRA Chain was exploited on 20 August 2026. An attacker used an unsigned-integer underflow in the balance-accounting layer of cosmos/evm, an upstream dependency, to move 720,923,967.99 MANTRA: 600,000,035.56 from the burn address and 120,923,932.44 from a legacy multisig dating from genesis. MANTRA valued the amount at about US$3.6 million. The chain was halted at 23:13 UTC and blocks resumed at 05:26 UTC on 22 August on patched release v8.4.0, a stop of 30 hours 13 minutes. As of 28 August 2026 none of the tokens had been recovered.

Code that the chain depends on can fail again. The security page gives the full account of the August 2026 incident and what changed.

Regulatory and exchange risk

No licence covers the coin itself. Rules for crypto-assets differ by country and change over time. A new rule, or a decision by an exchange, can restrict or end trading in MANTRA where you live, and the 23 names listed above are not a promise of access. The white paper for the European Union is a disclosure, not an approval. In Dubai, VARA VASP Licence VL/25/02/001 belongs to Mantra Finance FZE and covers that company's services only.

MANTRA token FAQ

What is the MANTRA token used for?

MANTRA has three uses on MANTRA Chain. It pays transaction fees, which averaged 0.0136 MANTRA in the week to 4 October 2026. It is staked with validators to secure the network, and 28.77% of total supply was staked on that date. It also carries votes on protocol changes: the weekly report counts 39 governance proposals to date.

Is MANTRA the same as OM?

Yes. MANTRA is the coin that used to be called OM. On 2 March 2026 the ticker changed and every OM became 4 MANTRA, a split that MANTRA describes as non-dilutive. The ERC-20 version of OM was deprecated on 15 January 2026, when the bridge closed. Holders of OM on MANTRA Chain did not have to do anything. Figures dated before the change are in OM.

What is the total supply of MANTRA?

Total supply was 8.22 billion MANTRA on 4 October 2026, against a maximum of 10.00 billion, according to Weekly Transparency Report 21, which credits CoinGecko. Of that, 6.56 billion (79.76%) was circulating and 20.24% was locked. The total is not fixed: it was 8.09 billion on 23 August 2026, and new MANTRA is issued to stakers.

Is the MANTRA staking APR guaranteed?

No. The staking APR is variable and not guaranteed. Weekly Transparency Report 21 gives a weekly average of 23.15% for 28 September to 4 October 2026 and 22.00% on , calculated from on-chain mint events with inflation at 16.0%. This page reads the figure as gross, before validator commission; the report does not say. What stakers receive is newly issued MANTRA, and MANTRA Chain Association does not set the rate.

How long is the MANTRA unbonding period?

The MANTRA unbonding period is 8 days, as of 4 October 2026, according to Weekly Transparency Report 21. Unbonding starts when you undelegate staked MANTRA from a validator. Until the 8 days have passed the coins cannot be transferred or sold, so you carry the price risk for that time. The period is a network setting: check the newest weekly report before you rely on it.

Is MANTRA coin a good investment?

This page cannot tell you, and nothing on it is investment advice. What it can give you is facts to weigh. On 13 April 2025 OM fell 92% in about an hour. On 20 August 2026 the chain was exploited and halted. Supply grows through new issuance, and 20.24% of it was still locked on 4 October 2026. You can lose everything you put in.

Is the MANTRA token regulated?

The coin itself holds no licence. For the European Union, MANTRA publishes a crypto-asset white paper under MiCA Article 6, which is a disclosure and not an approval. In Dubai, Mantra Finance FZE is licensed by VARA under VASP Licence VL/25/02/001. That licence covers the company's own services, not the MANTRA coin and not MANTRA Chain Association, which operates the blockchain and is not licensed by VARA.

The site-wide FAQ has more questions about MANTRA, the chain and the companies behind it.

Regulatory note and related pages

MANTRA Chain Association operates the MANTRA Chain blockchain and is not licensed by VARA. Under the site's Terms it runs the network and offers no products or services of its own. The About page sets out who operates MANTRA Chain, entity by entity.

Mantra Finance FZE, a separate MANTRA Group company, is licensed by Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) under VASP Licence VL/25/02/001 for Exchange Services, Broker-Dealer Services and Management and Investment Services (register entry for Mantra Finance FZE). The register lists no Category 1 VA Issuance activity. The licence covers that company's services. It does not cover MANTRA Chain Association, the blockchain or the MANTRA coin. Licensing or registration with VARA does not imply endorsement or approval of any specific Virtual Asset product, offering, or service.
